Where it helps

Light the crowd, not the screen

At an outdoor cinema the screen needs darkness, but your guests still need to see where they are walking. Lighting towers put light where people move without washing out the picture.

💡
Crowd and seating areas
Light the audience area so guests can find a seat and move around safely.
🚶
Entries, exits and walkways
Clear lighting at the places people enter, leave and queue.
🍴
Food, bar and stall areas
Keep canteens, bars and stalls lit while the film plays.
🌟
Setup and pack-down
Work safely after dark at the start and end of the night.
Safety

Our lighting tower safety procedure (JSA)

A telescopic mast is a falling object and electrical hazard if it is set up or used badly. This procedure draws on WorkSafe WA Significant Incident Summary No. 15 (23 October 2026), which warned of an uncontrolled mast retraction, and sets out how we hire the towers and what we require when they are used.

The three rules we hold every job to

Stabilisers fully out before the mast goes up. The lighting head fitted and balanced as the manual says. Nobody inside the cordon while the mast moves, except the person at the mast controls.

What we check before a unit leaves

✓
The mast raises and lowers smoothly, and locking pins engage
✓
The stabilisers extend fully and lock
✓
The lighting head is fitted and balanced as the manufacturer specifies
✓
Leads are undamaged, the RCD works and the test tag is in date
✓
Brakes, tyres and tow gear are sound on trailer mounted units
✓
A unit that fails any check does not go out

What we require on site

Level, stable ground with the stabilisers fully out and locked before the mast is raised.
Clear of power lines. No part of the mast or lighting head may enter the danger zone around an overhead line. If the voltage is unknown, the distance is 6 m.
Wind below the unit's limit, checked before raising and at least every hour while the mast is up.
A cordon around the unit, at least the raised height of the mast in every direction unless the manual says more, with a named person watching it.
Stop work if the mast moves on its own, the ground shifts, or lightning is seen or thunder is heard. The JSA sets out exactly what to do.

Frequently asked questions

Lighting tower hire FAQs

Two telescopic mast lighting towers and four 100W lights, as our audience lighting package, at $300. Tell us your venue and we will confirm how it is delivered and set up for your event.
Most hires are set up and run by the hirer's crew, and we hand the unit over with a demonstration. Where we set up a unit ourselves, our crew leader acts as the site supervisor. If nobody on site is trained to set up a unit, we ask you not to set it up and to call us.
Yes. Our Mobile Lighting Tower JSA is published on this page and on our compliance page. It sets out our checks, our handover, the setup we require, stop work rules, emergency steps and the hazards we have assessed.
Every tower has a maximum wind speed set by its manufacturer. We give you the limit for your unit at handover, and the mast is lowered when wind reaches it. Wind is checked at least every hour while the mast is up.
The mast must never go up where any part of it, or the lighting head, could reach the danger zone around an overhead line. If the voltage is unknown, we use 6 m. If lightning is seen or thunder is heard, everyone moves away from the unit to shelter, and the mast stays raised and the cordon closed until 30 minutes after the last thunder.
Yes. We hold $10M public liability insurance, and our certificate of currency, JSA and waste management plan are on our compliance page.
