A community movie night brings people together in a way that almost nothing else does. Neighbours who have never spoken, families from different backgrounds, kids and grandparents all watching the same screen under the same sky. Perth Pop-Up Movies has been running community cinema events across Perth since 2020 — from neighbourhood nights in Nedlands and Claremont to large community screenings in Baldivis, Joondalup and Ellenbrook.
Residents associations, street parties and neighbourhood groups. A movie night is the easiest community event you can organise and consistently the best attended. Bring people together who live near each other but rarely meet.
Cinema crosses language barriers in a way that most community events cannot. A family-friendly film on a large screen works for diverse communities regardless of background. Popular with multicultural groups, migrant support organisations and cultural associations across Perth.
Perth’s growing Christmas community event tradition. A festive film on the oval with food trucks, carols and family activities is the kind of event councils and community groups run year after year. Our 5m and 8m screens suit Christmas gatherings of 100 to 1,200 people.
Not-for-profit organisations and charities use community cinema nights as fundraisers — ticket sales, raffle and food stall revenue all flows to the cause. Lotterywest and DLGSC grant funding is available to offset event costs for eligible organisations.
City and town councils across Perth regularly use outdoor cinema to activate parks and build community connection. We work with councils on venue approval, safety documentation and event management. Certificate of insurance, JSA and waste management plan all provided.
Apartment complexes and strata communities use cinema nights as resident engagement events. Our 3m framed screen works in courtyards, rooftop terraces and car parks. A surprisingly affordable way for body corporates to invest in community within their buildings.
Council parks, foreshore reserves and open ovals across Perth are ideal outdoor cinema venues. We handle all the technical logistics. You handle the council booking and film licence, and we handle everything else from arrival to packdown.
Churches, mosques, temples and religious community groups across Perth use outdoor cinema to bring congregations together in a relaxed social setting. Family-friendly films, comfortable seating and a professionally run event that reflects well on any organisation.
For community groups running a ticketed fundraiser, here is a realistic estimate of what your event can generate based on attendance and ticket pricing.
Estimates only. Film licence (~$400) not included above — factor this in for public screenings. Community grant funding from Lotterywest or the DLGSC may offset your cinema hire cost.

The best-run community cinema events in Perth consistently attract 3 to 5 times more attendees than poorly promoted ones. Here are the channels that work.
Your suburb’s community Facebook group is the single highest-reach channel available. Post 2 weeks out, 1 week out and the day before. Include the film title, time and location in every post.
Submit to your council’s community events calendar — it is free and reaches residents actively looking for local events. Most Perth councils process submissions within 3 to 5 business days.
List on Eventfinda for free. It reaches people searching for things to do in Perth and adds a legitimate-looking public listing to your promotional mix.
If your event is connected to a school or sporting club, their newsletter and Facebook page are your highest-trust channels. A principal or club president endorsement significantly increases attendance.
Letterbox drops and community noticeboards at local cafes, newsagents and community centres still work surprisingly well for community events, particularly in family-dense suburbs.
RTR FM 92.1 and 6PR both accept community event listings. Perth community radio has a loyal local audience and community events get genuine airtime.
Tell us your suburb, your expected attendance and your preferred date. We will get back to you with a quote and all the documentation your council will need.
