Buyer's guide

How to choose your screen

01

By crowd size

Up to 30 people, the 3m community package. Up to around 230, the 5m. For a big public crowd up to 1,200, the 8m. If you are between sizes, go up: a larger screen always reads better from the back of an oval.

02

By venue

Halls, classrooms and small rooms suit the 3m. School ovals, club grounds and large lawns suit the 5m. Council reserves, showgrounds and festival sites suit the 8m, which needs 17 m by 17 m of clear flat ground.

03

By event type

Classroom and small club nights take the 3m. School fundraisers, club nights and community events usually take the 5m. Councils, summer series, New Year's Eve and big corporate days take the 8m.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Which community screen size do I need?
Choose by your crowd: the 3m community package suits up to 30 guests, the 5m up to 230, and the 8m big public events up to 1,200. If you are between two sizes, the larger screen is the safer choice because it reads better from the back.
What is the difference between a community screen and a backyard screen?
A community hire is staffed. Our team is on site and runs the night, with an upgraded projector and a bigger sound system, so your volunteers can run the gate, the canteen and the raffle. A backyard hire is dry hire: we deliver and set up, and you run the movie yourselves.
How much does community cinema hire cost in Perth?
The 3m community package is $450, the 5m community screen is $600 and the 8m community screen is $1,100. Each price includes the screen, projector, sound, setup, an on-site operator and pack-down. Delivery is charged at $4 per kilometre from Kwinana.
Is there free delivery on community screens?
No. Community packages are delivered and run by staff, so travel is charged from our Kwinana base at $4 per kilometre. Check your suburb on the Perth suburbs page for the exact cost.
Do you provide the paperwork councils and schools ask for?
Yes. We hold $10M public liability insurance, and our certificate of currency, job safety analysis, waste management plan and capability statement are ready to download on our compliance page. We can name councils, schools and venues as additional insured.
Do I need a licence to screen a film at a public event?
Yes, for any public, ticketed, fundraising or council screening you need a public performance licence for the film. The licence is arranged by the organiser directly with the film distributor, so check it well before you advertise or sell tickets.
What about power at a park, oval or reserve?
The 3m and 5m need mains power nearby and the 8m needs 30 amps within 30 metres. If there is no power, we hire a petrol generator or a silent battery inverter, which suits noise sensitive venues. See our generator hire page for prices and our safety documents.
Can you handle a public event that needs a Form 5?
Yes. If your council requires a Form 5 Certificate of Electrical Compliance for a public event, we arrange a licensed electrician to attend site and sign it, for a $500 fee added to your hire.
How far ahead should I book?
Popular dates over summer and on weekends fill early, so get in touch as soon as you have a date in mind. We confirm within 24 hours.
