Local knowledge

What You Need to Know About Outdoor Cinema in City Beach

Coastal means an afternoon sea breeze: City Beach catches the Fremantle Doctor on summer afternoons, so set the screen with its back to the westerly and consider a slightly later start once the wind eases.
Large modern backyards: Many City Beach homes are substantial rebuilds with big paved or lawned entertaining areas that comfortably hold a screen and seating.
Beachfront screenings: The grassed City Beach foreshore suits sunset community events, with hire arranged through the Town of Cambridge.
Time it with sunset: Being right on the coast, City Beach gets dramatic ocean sunsets, so start the film just after dusk for the best picture and a memorable backdrop.
Allow for delivery distance: City Beach sits outside our free-delivery zone, so paid delivery applies, and we factor the coastal run from Kwinana into your quote up front.

About the area

A Brief History of City Beach

City Beach takes its name from the City of Perth, which historically held much of the coastal land here and developed it as Perth municipal seaside frontage. Residential subdivision along the coast occurred largely through the 1950s and especially the late 1960s.

The central part of the suburb was built immediately before the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games as an athletes village, chosen for its proximity to Perry Lakes Stadium in neighbouring Floreat. Those Games-era houses formed an early core that later releases expanded.

Over following decades City Beach evolved into one of Perth most prestigious coastal addresses, with many original homes progressively replaced by large contemporary residences taking advantage of elevated ocean views.

The beachfront itself, with its surf life saving club, grassed foreshore reserves and dunes, is a major draw, while Bold Park bushland provides a green buffer between the coast and inland suburbs.

Spacious modern backyards, an affluent established community and a spectacular coastal setting make City Beach ideal for premium outdoor cinema, from private oceanfront-home events to sunset screenings on the foreshore reserve.
