Local knowledge

What You Need to Know About Outdoor Cinema in Wembley

Big lots, mature gardens: Many original Wembley blocks are generous with established trees, giving plenty of room for a backyard screen and seating away from neighbours.
Mind the canopy: Older streets have large mature trees, so check for an open patch of lawn where the projector beam clears the foliage.
Lake Monger for big crowds: For larger community screenings, Lake Monger Reserve offers wide flat lawns, with bookings through the Town of Cambridge.
Quick freeway run: Wembley sits close to the Mitchell Freeway, so our delivery van reaches inner-west addresses quickly despite the paid-delivery distance.
Warm inland evenings: Inland Wembley holds warmth into the evening, making late-finishing summer screenings comfortable without much breeze.

About the area

A Brief History of Wembley

Wembley developed largely through the 1920s and 1930s as Perth expanded westward along the Cambridge Street corridor, taking its name from the London suburb after the 1924 British Empire Exhibition. Many of its character homes date from this interwar period.

The suburb wraps around the eastern and southern edges of Lake Monger, one of Perth best-known urban wetlands and a long-standing recreation and birdlife reserve. The lake and its surrounding parkland remain the suburb defining open space.

Post-war infill and renovation gradually filled out the street grid, and today Wembley is a sought-after established suburb that blends original cottages and bungalows with substantial rebuilt family homes on traditional inner-city blocks.

Cambridge Street forms the commercial spine, with cafes, specialty retail and medical services, while the surrounding residential streets are quiet, tree-lined and walkable. The suburb sits within the Town of Cambridge alongside Floreat and City Beach.

The combination of generous established backyards, mature gardens and an affluent, settled population makes Wembley well suited to private outdoor cinema events, with Lake Monger Reserve available for larger community screenings.
