San Remo sits on Binjareb Noongar country on the northern coastline of Mandurah, a low ribbon of coastal dune and beach between Madora Bay and Silver Sands. The Indian Ocean forms its western edge, with sheltered family streets running back toward Mandurah Road.
The suburb takes its name from the San Remo land development that opened here, a name that echoes the Mediterranean Riviera resort and matches the coastal branding given to this string of beachside Mandurah estates as they were marketed to buyers.
San Remo was gazetted in 1989 alongside neighbouring Silver Sands, both names carried over from popular developer estates. The San Remo development grew to occupy around three kilometres of shoreline, filling steadily with freestanding family homes through the following decades.
Today San Remo is a quiet residential pocket of the City of Mandurah, almost entirely standalone houses, with a settled family population, the surf life saving club on the beach and easy reach of the Mandurah shops, foreshore and rail.
