Local knowledge

What You Need to Know About Outdoor Cinema in Piara Waters

Book the pavilion reserve midweek: Piara Waters Pavilion and Reserve is reserved for local sporting clubs on Saturdays, so plan school or community screenings on a weeknight or Sunday.
Use Robot Park for family draws: Robot Park is a well-known regional playground, so a movie night nearby piggybacks on existing foot traffic and has shade, barbecues and public toilets already on site.
Tap the new-estate community spirit: Piara Waters grew from under 100 people in 2006 to over 14,000 by 2021, so resident and school P&C movie nights draw strong local turnout.
Mind the bushland edges: Reserves like the Central Piara Nature Reserve back onto natural bushland, so confirm fire restrictions and any council conditions before a hot-season event.
Plan for parking and access: Estate streets and park car parks fill quickly at family events, so encourage early arrival and start the film around dusk.

About the area

A Brief History of Piara Waters

Piara Waters was gazetted in 2007, having previously formed part of neighbouring Forrestdale. The name honours Peter Henry Waters, and the suburb sits within the City of Armadale in Perth south-east.

It has been one of Perth fastest-growing suburbs. The population climbed from fewer than 100 residents in 2006 to more than 14,000 by the 2021 census, driven by large master-planned estates such as Newhaven and Aarya that filled the suburb with new family homes.

Community infrastructure followed the housing boom. Piara Waters Primary School opened in 2012, and Piara Waters Senior High School, one of the state newest public secondary schools, began taking students in 2023, with a local shopping centre opening in late 2023.

Open space is a defining feature of the suburb. Landmarks include the Central Piara Nature Reserve, Piara Waters Park with its meandering brook, and the popular robot-themed Robot Park in the Newhaven estate, alongside numerous neighbourhood parks.

This combination of young families, abundant parkland and a strong new-estate community spirit makes Piara Waters well suited to outdoor cinema. Flat grassed reserves, on-site amenities and an established appetite for community events give organisers a ready-made audience.
