Local knowledge

What You Need to Know About Outdoor Cinema in Harrisdale

Use the shared school-pavilion precinct: The Harrisdale Pavilion sits on a shared-use site between Harrisdale Primary and Senior High Schools, giving large flat reserves and existing amenities that suit big community movie nights.
Book through one council system: Harrisdale parks and the pavilion are all managed by the City of Armadale, so reserve bookings and any permits go through a single council portal.
Tap the Piara Waters overlap: Harrisdale and Piara Waters share parkland along their boundary, so a Harrisdale screening easily draws families from both growing suburbs.
Anchor near Robot Park and Stockland: The Robot Park and Stockland Harrisdale precinct is the suburb social heart, with ample parking and foot traffic for community and school-fundraiser events.
Mind the bushland edges: Harrisdale Swamp and nearby Forrestdale Lake are protected conservation areas, so keep cinema setups on the maintained reserves and ovals rather than the bush itself.

About the area

A Brief History of Harrisdale

Harrisdale takes its name from the Harris family, who moved into the district around 1898 and were among the area first European settlers, holding roughly 240 acres bounded by Warton and Wright Roads.

For most of the twentieth century the area remained rural and semi-agricultural on Perth south-eastern fringe, part of the broader market-garden belt around Forrestdale and Southern River.

The modern suburb was formally gazetted in 2007, and large-scale residential development followed quickly, including the Harrisdale Green project with the State Government and Cedar Woods, which began construction in 2010 with a focus on affordable, sustainable housing.

Through the 2010s Harrisdale transformed into one of Perth fastest-growing family suburbs, its population climbing past 11,000 by the 2021 census, supported by new schools, the Stockland Harrisdale shopping centre and shared community facilities with Piara Waters.

Today Harrisdale balances dense new housing with retained natural assets such as the Harrisdale Swamp banksia bushland and proximity to the Ramsar-listed Forrestdale Lake, giving the suburb a green, family-oriented character within the City of Armadale.
