Local knowledge

What You Need to Know About Outdoor Cinema in Falcon

Ocean breeze fades after dark: Falcon faces the Indian Ocean so a sea breeze can pick up in the afternoon. It usually drops at dusk, leaving still warm evenings that are perfect for a screen outdoors.
Pick a sheltered bay: The north facing bays like Falcon Bay sit out of the prevailing wind. Setting up with the dunes or housing behind you keeps the picture steady and the audience comfortable.
Plan around the tides: If you want the estuary or beach as a backdrop, check the tide before you book. A higher tide gives a fuller waterline and tidier foreshore for your guests.
Use the foreshore car parks: Falcon Bay and the foreshore reserves have large car parks. Arriving early lets us unload the screen close by and gives your guests an easy, safe place to park.
Bring layers for late finishes: Coastal nights cool quickly once the film ends. Remind guests to pack a jumper, rug or beanbag so everyone stays cosy through the final scenes.

About the area

A Brief History of Falcon

Falcon sits on Binjareb Noongar country, part of a low island ringed by water. The Mandurah Estuary lies north, the Peel Harvey Estuary east, the Indian Ocean west and the Dawesville Channel south, a landscape long valued for its rich fishing and seasonal abundance.

The suburb was first known as Miami. On 13 November 1967 it was renamed after Falcon Bay. The name traces to a yacht called Falcon whose crew won silver in the Sharpie class at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, and many nearby streets carry sailing names.

Through the late twentieth century Falcon grew from holiday shacks into a settled coastal community. The Dawesville Channel, cut between 1990 and 1994, flushed the estuary with ocean tides, restoring water quality and reshaping the southern edge of the suburb.

Today Falcon is a relaxed City of Mandurah suburb of around 5,500 residents. Foreshore reserves at Falcon Bay and Novara, upgraded play areas, a skate park and beach access draw families, retirees and holidaymakers to its quiet bays and estuary shores.

For us Falcon is a comfortable run down the coast from our Kwinana base, charged at a simple flat rate of $4/km.

Yes. We regularly service Halls Head, Wannanup, Erskine, Dawesville, Mandurah, Greenfields and the rest of the City of Mandurah. Use the delivery estimator on this page for an exact figure to any neighbouring suburb.
A standard 240V powerpoint within reach of the setup is all we need, which every Falcon home has. If you are at a park or oval with no power, we can bring a generator or a silent battery inverter for $150.
Autumn is ideal: mild evenings, dark by 7pm and almost no wind. Summer is popular too, just plan a later 8:30pm start while the evenings are long.

The picture needs darkness, so we always start after dusk. In summer that is about 8:30pm; in autumn and winter it is dark by 6 to 7pm. We can arrive and set up earlier so everything is ready the moment the light drops.
For a private backyard party you can show whatever you own or stream, from Netflix and Disney+ to a DVD or a console. For any public or ticketed event, a public performance licence is needed and we will point you to the right one.
We do the lot. We deliver to your Falcon address, set up the screen, projector and sound, get it running, and come back to pack it all down. You just press play.
The 3m screen suits 25 to 30 people, which is right for most Falcon backyards. For a bigger block, a street party or a school oval, the 5m screen handles up to around 230.
