Falcon sits on Binjareb Noongar country, part of a low island ringed by water. The Mandurah Estuary lies north, the Peel Harvey Estuary east, the Indian Ocean west and the Dawesville Channel south, a landscape long valued for its rich fishing and seasonal abundance.
The suburb was first known as Miami. On 13 November 1967 it was renamed after Falcon Bay. The name traces to a yacht called Falcon whose crew won silver in the Sharpie class at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, and many nearby streets carry sailing names.
Through the late twentieth century Falcon grew from holiday shacks into a settled coastal community. The Dawesville Channel, cut between 1990 and 1994, flushed the estuary with ocean tides, restoring water quality and reshaping the southern edge of the suburb.
Today Falcon is a relaxed City of Mandurah suburb of around 5,500 residents. Foreshore reserves at Falcon Bay and Novara, upgraded play areas, a skate park and beach access draw families, retirees and holidaymakers to its quiet bays and estuary shores.
For us Falcon is a comfortable run down the coast from our Kwinana base, charged at a simple flat rate of $4/km.
