Dawesville lies on the narrow strip of land between the Indian Ocean and the Peel-Harvey Estuary, long valued by Noongar people and later by fishers and holidaymakers drawn to the estuary.
For much of the twentieth century it remained a quiet coastal and shack settlement south of Mandurah, with low-key beach housing along the estuary and ocean foreshores.
The suburb was transformed by the Dawesville Cut, an artificial channel begun in 1990 and completed in 1994 to flush the estuary with ocean tides and solve a serious algae problem in the Peel-Harvey system.
Spanned by the Port Bouvard Bridge, the Cut spurred canal estates and waterfront development, and today Dawesville is one of Mandurah fast-growing coastal suburbs centred on the estuary and marina.
For us it is a run south past Mandurah, priced simply at a flat $4/km, quoted upfront, with the estuary and canals as the backdrop.
