Bouvard lies on Binjareb Noongar country at the southern reach of the City of Mandurah, a narrow strip of land between the Indian Ocean and the Harvey Estuary. The locality takes in the northern shores of Lake Clifton and the edge of Yalgorup National Park.
The name comes from Cape Bouvard about five kilometres to the west, charted by French explorer Nicolas Baudin around 1802 and 1803. The cape honours a Bouvard family member, most likely astronomer Alexis Bouvard or chemist Charles Bouvard of France.
For decades Bouvard stayed sparsely settled rural land along Old Coast Road, the historic route between Mandurah and Bunbury. The Park Ridge estate arrived in the 1990s, and later coastal and estuary side estates slowly added homes to the eastern flank.
Today Bouvard remains one of the quietest southern localities in the City of Mandurah, a low key rural residential pocket of large bush buffered lots, active coastcare volunteers and easy reach to Dawesville, Wannanup and the Yalgorup lakes.
For us Bouvard is a straightforward run south of our Kwinana base, billed at our flat rate of $4/km, so a backyard or reserve cinema night on this stretch of the Peel coast stays simple and clear to quote.
