Local knowledge

What You Need to Know About Outdoor Cinema in Bouvard

Chase the estuary sunset: Bouvard sits between ocean and Harvey Estuary, so plan an early evening start and let the water and sky do the warm up before the film begins.
Mind the national park rules: Yalgorup and the Lake Clifton thrombolites are protected, so keep events to designated parking and lawn areas and leave dogs at home where baiting signs apply.
Bring layers for coastal nights: This strip catches the sea breeze off the Indian Ocean, so pack jumpers, rugs and warm drinks even on mild Peel evenings near the water.
Pair it with a foreshore day: Dawesville Foreshore just north has playgrounds, barbecues and boat ramps, making an easy full afternoon of crabbing and play before an after dark screening.
Plan parking on Old Coast Road: Bouvard is a narrow strip along Old Coast Road, so direct guests to formal reserve car parks rather than the verge and keep the highway shoulder clear.

About the area

A Brief History of Bouvard

Bouvard lies on Binjareb Noongar country at the southern reach of the City of Mandurah, a narrow strip of land between the Indian Ocean and the Harvey Estuary. The locality takes in the northern shores of Lake Clifton and the edge of Yalgorup National Park.

The name comes from Cape Bouvard about five kilometres to the west, charted by French explorer Nicolas Baudin around 1802 and 1803. The cape honours a Bouvard family member, most likely astronomer Alexis Bouvard or chemist Charles Bouvard of France.

For decades Bouvard stayed sparsely settled rural land along Old Coast Road, the historic route between Mandurah and Bunbury. The Park Ridge estate arrived in the 1990s, and later coastal and estuary side estates slowly added homes to the eastern flank.

Today Bouvard remains one of the quietest southern localities in the City of Mandurah, a low key rural residential pocket of large bush buffered lots, active coastcare volunteers and easy reach to Dawesville, Wannanup and the Yalgorup lakes.

For us Bouvard is a straightforward run south of our Kwinana base, billed at our flat rate of $4/km, so a backyard or reserve cinema night on this stretch of the Peel coast stays simple and clear to quote.

Bouvard is about 60km from our Kwinana base. Travel is a flat $4/km, with the first 20km free on the 3m screen, so the 3m delivers for $160 and the 5m and 8m for $240. No weekend or public holiday surcharges, ever.
Almost always. The 3m screen needs roughly 4 metres of width and a bit of depth for seating, which suits a typical Bouvard block. Send us a photo of your space if you are unsure and we will confirm before you book.
Yes. We regularly service Dawesville, Wannanup, Falcon, Clifton, Herron, Halls Head and the rest of the City of Mandurah. Use the delivery estimator on this page for an exact figure to any neighbouring suburb.
A standard 240V powerpoint within reach of the setup is all we need, which every Bouvard home has. If you are at a park or oval with no power, we can bring a generator or a silent battery inverter for $150.
Autumn is ideal: mild evenings, dark by 7pm and almost no wind. Summer is popular too, just plan a later 8:30pm start while the evenings are long.

The picture needs darkness, so we always start after dusk. In summer that is about 8:30pm; in autumn and winter it is dark by 6 to 7pm. We can arrive and set up earlier so everything is ready the moment the light drops.
For a private backyard party you can show whatever you own or stream, from Netflix and Disney+ to a DVD or a console. For any public or ticketed event, a public performance licence is needed and we will point you to the right one.
We do the lot. We deliver to your Bouvard address, set up the screen, projector and sound, get it running, and come back to pack it all down. You just press play.
The 3m screen suits 25 to 30 people, which is right for most Bouvard backyards. For a bigger block, a street party or a school oval, the 5m screen handles up to around 230.
