How we differ

Why Outdoor Cinema Hire in Belmont Is Different From the Rest of Perth

Outdoor cinema hire in Belmont has its own character. It sits right across the Swan River from the city at around 46km, with a stunning riverside skyline backdrop, and a quirk no other suburb shares: large parts of it sit directly under the Perth Airport flight path.

The riverside advantage

Belmont hugs the south bank of the Swan River, known to the Whadjuk people as the Derbarl Yerrigan. Suburbs like Ascot, Rivervale and Redcliffe sit right on the foreshore, and an outdoor movie with the reflected city lights shimmering across the water is genuinely hard to beat. River-edge evenings do cool quickly and can carry a light breeze off the water, so we anchor and weight the screen for stability and always suggest guests bring a layer for the second half of the film.

It is also only about 8km from the Perth CBD and sits right beside the Crown and Burswood precinct, so Belmont combines an easy run from our base with a setting that feels a world away from a function room.

The flight-path factor

Parts of Belmont, Kewdale and Redcliffe sit under Perth Airport approach and departure paths. A generator humming away on top of aircraft noise is the last thing you want, so for any booking near the airport we recommend our silent battery inverter power option. It runs the projector and sound system with zero engine noise, so dialogue stays clear between flyovers and the only constant sound is the film.

All of it works, from a riverside foreshore reserve to a quiet Ascot backyard. Tell us which version you are planning and we will give you the right recommendation.

Outdoor cinema hire Belmont: silent power near the airport explained

The silent battery inverter is the option we recommend most often in Belmont. It replaces a petrol generator entirely, runs the projector, screen blower and PA from a sealed battery pack, and makes no engine noise at all. Under the airport flight path, that difference is the gap between a guest hearing every line of dialogue and missing half the film.

It is available on every screen size and costs the same as a generator setup. If your event is in Belmont, Kewdale or Redcliffe, or anywhere the airport noise carries, just mention it when you enquire and we will build it into the quote.

Local knowledge

What You Need to Know About Outdoor Cinema in Belmont

Swan River foreshore evenings: Belmont hugs the Swan River, and suburbs like Ascot, Rivervale and Redcliffe sit right on the foreshore. River-edge evenings cool quickly and can carry a light breeze off the water, so we anchor and weight the screen for stability and suggest guests bring a jumper for the second half of the film. The reflected city lights make for a stunning backdrop once the sun drops.
Large established blocks in Ascot and Rivervale: Older parts of Ascot, Rivervale and Redcliffe have generous backyards and wide side access, which is ideal for our larger screens and easy gear loading. If your block has a flat lawn area roughly 5m by 4m, you can comfortably step up from the 3m screen. Send us a quick photo of the yard and we will recommend the best fit.
Perth Airport flight path and our silent power: Parts of Belmont, Kewdale and Redcliffe sit under Perth Airport approach and departure paths, so a generator humming away on top of aircraft noise is the last thing you want. Our SILENT battery inverter power option runs the projector and screen with zero engine noise, so dialogue stays clear between flyovers. It is the setup we recommend for any booking near the airport.
City of Belmont park permits: For a private backyard event you do not need a permit. If you want to screen at a public reserve such as a Swan River foreshore park or a local oval, the City of Belmont requires a reserve booking or event permit, and large gatherings may need extra approvals. We can advise on the gear side, but the permit is arranged by you directly with the council.
Best screen choice for Belmont yards: For most Belmont backyards and small parties the 3m screen from $384 is the sweet spot and the easiest to position. Big established blocks in Ascot or Rivervale, or a community and school event, suit a larger screen for clear viewing from the back rows. Tell us your guest count and space and we will match the right size.

About the area

A Brief History of Belmont Western Australia

Belmont sits on the south bank of the Swan River, around 8 kilometres east of Perth's central business district, on land cared for by the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation for tens of thousands of years before European settlement. Since the founding of the Swan River Colony in 1829 it has grown from poor-quality farming and swampy market-garden country into a busy mixed-use city that today contains Perth's domestic and international airports. The City of Belmont now spans roughly 40 square kilometres across seven suburbs, including Belmont, Cloverdale, Rivervale and Ascot.

Belmont through the ages

Deep time
The Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation are the Traditional Custodians of this land, with a connection stretching back tens of thousands of years. The Swan River, known as the Derbarl Yerrigan, holds deep cultural significance and was shaped during the Nyitting (Creation Time) by the Waugal, the great creator serpent, with riverside flats providing rich fishing and hunting grounds.
1829-1831
Following the establishment of the Swan River Colony in 1829, the area was opened to private settlement under a land grant system. In 1831 a grant covering the Belmont area was assigned to Captain Francis Henry Byrne, and the district is believed to have taken its name from Byrne's estate in England.
1870s-1880s
Hardey's farm on the river became Perth's permanent racecourse, and a horse-racing industry grew around it; in 1877 the State Government granted the Western Australian Turf Club a 999-year lease over the land that became the Perth (later Ascot) Racecourse. In 1882 the original Belmont land was bought by Shepherd Smith of Sydney.
1890s-1910s
Smith subdivided the Belmont land in 1897-1898, and the Belmont Road District was formally created on 2 December 1898 (renamed Belmont Park in 1907). Chinese migrants drawn by the 1890s gold rush turned the swampy ground into some of Perth's first market gardens, while the Cloverdale Estate subdivision was advertised for sale in 1910.
1938-1953
In 1938 land was selected and purchased for a new aerodrome at what was then Guildford, on the city's eastern edge. Used as RAAF Station Guildford during World War II, full civilian operations began in 1944, and the facility was renamed Perth Airport in 1953.
1954-1979
The suburbs took their modern shape: Cloverdale was officially recognised as a suburb name in 1954, Rivervale and Cloverdale saw major residential growth through the 1950s and 1960s, and Belmont Park was renamed Belmont in 1968. The Shire of Belmont was formed on 1 July 1961 and gained city status on 17 February 1979.
Today
The City of Belmont covers about 39.8 square kilometres and recorded a population of roughly 42,000 at the 2021 Census. Perth Airport accounts for about a third of the city's land area, and in 2023 Belmont held its first popular mayoral election, electing Robert Rossi as mayor.

River and racing heritage

Belmont's identity is bound up with the Swan River foreshore and its racing past. Ascot and Belmont have long been associated with horses thanks to their proximity to the race tracks, and the riverside setting, once valued by the Whadjuk people for fishing and as productive market-garden land, today gives the city green foreshore parks and walk trails along the Derbarl Yerrigan.

A city shaped by its location

Belmont's character is defined by where it sits. Perth Airport occupies around a third of the city's land and its flight paths are a constant presence overhead, while the riverfront places Belmont within easy reach of the Crown/Burswood entertainment precinct just across its boundary and only about 8 kilometres from the Perth CBD, making it a well-connected mixed-use hub of industrial, commercial and residential areas.

Questions

Outdoor Cinema Hire Belmont FAQs

Our packages start from $384 for the 3m screen, delivered, set up and packed down. The final price depends on the screen size you choose and any add-ons such as the silent battery power option. Tell us your suburb and guest numbers and we will give you a clear quote.
Yes, we deliver across Belmont and the surrounding suburbs. Belmont is roughly 46km from our Kwinana base, and delivery, setup and pack down are included in the package price. There is no separate travel surcharge for the Belmont area.
No. We charge the same price seven days a week, including weekends and public holidays. Friday and Saturday nights book out fastest, so reserve early for those dates.
Private backyards in Ascot, Rivervale, Cloverdale, Kewdale and Redcliffe are the most popular, especially the larger established blocks. Swan River foreshore reserves and local parks also work well for community events, with a City of Belmont booking. We just need a flat area and access to position the screen safely.
Not for a private event on your own property. For a public space such as a council park, oval or a Swan River foreshore reserve, the City of Belmont requires a reserve booking or event permit, which you arrange directly with the council. We are happy to provide event details to support your application.
October through April gives the warmest, driest evenings and is our busiest stretch. Summer nights are ideal, though river-edge suburbs like Ascot and Rivervale can get a cool breeze off the water late in the evening. We run year round, so winter bookings are welcome too with a few warm layers.
Yes. Our SILENT battery inverter power option runs everything with no engine noise, which matters a lot under the airport flight path through Belmont, Kewdale and Redcliffe. You only hear the film, and dialogue stays clear between aircraft. We recommend it for any booking near the airport.
We keep an eye on the forecast with you and aim to reschedule to another suitable night at no extra cost. If rain makes the event unsafe and we cannot find an alternative date, we will work out a fair outcome with you. Our gear is weather sensitive, so safety comes first.
A deposit secures your date, with the balance due before or on the event day. We will confirm the accepted payment methods when you book. The sooner you book, the better your chance of getting a peak Friday or Saturday night.
We cover the whole City of Belmont, including Belmont, Cloverdale, Rivervale, Ascot, Redcliffe and Kewdale. We also reach nearby areas around Burswood, the CBD and along the Swan River. If you are unsure whether we reach you, just ask.
Absolutely. Outdoor movie nights are a great fundraiser for Belmont schools and P and C groups, and a larger screen suits a big audience on an oval or in a hall courtyard. We can talk through screen size, layout and the silent power option for venues near the airport. Get in touch with your expected numbers and we will tailor a package.
