Local knowledge

What You Need to Know About Outdoor Cinema in Hammond Park

New estate, easy power: Hammond Park is almost entirely modern homes built since the 2010s, so backyards have reliable mains power and good safety switches, with no need to plan around an old fuse box.
Flat blocks make setup quick: The estate sits on flat, reclaimed Banjup farmland, so the 3m screen sets up level on most lawns with no slope to pack out.
Watch the wetland mozzies: Thompsons Lake and the marsupial reserve sit just west of the suburb, so dusk in the warmer months can bring mosquitoes. Have repellent ready for west-facing yards near the reserve.
Frankland Park for the big nights: For a club or whole-of-street event, Frankland Park floodlit ovals and function room give you parking, power and toilets that a backyard cannot.
Cheapest delivery we offer: At 15km from our Parmelia base, Hammond Park is inside the 20km zone, so the 3m backyard screen is delivered free, the same as nearby Success.

About the area

A Brief History of Hammond Park

Hammond Park was carved out of the old rural locality of Banjup and formally gazetted as its own suburb in March 2002. It takes its name from James Hammond, a pioneer of the Jandakot district who settled in the area in 1887.

Like much of the City of Cockburn eastern growth corridor, the suburb was developed as greenfield land to absorb Perth southern population growth. Its population more than doubled between 2011 and 2016 and it has since matured into a fully built-out community of detached family homes.

The suburb civic landmark is Frankland Park, a sport and community facility with two AFL-size floodlit ovals, a function room, a kiosk and a playground. It is home to the Hammond Park Junior Football Club and the local community association, alongside Hammond Park Primary School, Hammond Park Catholic Primary School and Hammond Park Secondary College.

That mix of large modern backyards, flat blocks and a young family demographic makes Hammond Park a natural fit for outdoor cinema. Homes are new enough to have easy power and level lawns, and the school and club calendars create plenty of demand for fundraiser and community movie nights.

For us the clincher is distance. Hammond Park is only about 15km up the freeway from our Kwinana base, so it sits comfortably inside the 20km free-delivery zone and the 3m backyard screen comes delivered free, just like neighbouring Success.
