Fantastic communication, fast and easy set up all done for us and simple instructions for us to follow, the bean bags were a great added touch to the whole outdoor movie experience. Would highly recommend and definitely use again!"
Bibra Lake takes its name from Benedict von Bibra, an early German settler who took up land in the area in the 1840s. The lake itself has far older significance to the Whadjuk Noongar people, for whom it was a culturally important site on a major trade route, with camping grounds and abundant food.
The lake is one of a chain of wetlands that make up the internationally significant Beeliar Wetlands, now protected within the Beeliar Regional Park. These seasonal lakes support large numbers of waterbirds and remain a focus for conservation and environmental education in Cockburn.
Through the second half of the 20th century the suburb developed a strong recreation identity. Adventure World opened on the lake western side in 1982 and became one of WA best-known theme parks, joined over the years by an ice arena and other leisure operators.
Today Bibra Lake balances residential and light-industrial areas with a major recreation and conservation precinct. The reserve, regional playground and wetlands education centre make it a busy gathering point for City of Cockburn families.
It is a short, easy run from our Kwinana base, so even with the small travel charge it is one of the more affordable spots in the City of Cockburn for an outdoor cinema.
