Perth Pop-Up Movies
Both screens look spectacular once the movie starts. Both are 3m. Both come with the same projector and sound system. The difference is in the shape, the profile and where they work best. Here is an honest breakdown so you can pick the right one without going back and forth.
Answer three questions and we will tell you exactly which screen to book.
The inflatable screen works like a giant balloon — air fills the structure during setup, then the fan turns off before the movie begins. No background noise during the film. A lot of people assume inflatables run all night with a motor humming. They do not. Once it is up and the pressure holds, it is completely silent.
The taller profile and slight forward lean gives the inflatable better wind resistance than a rigid frame. This makes it the natural choice for open outdoor spaces: a backyard in Baldivis, a school oval in Joondalup, a park reserve in Rockingham. The picture quality is identical to the framed version.
The one requirement is space. You need a reasonable footprint around the screen and approximately 6m of clear space behind it for rear projection. For most Perth suburban backyards this is straightforward. If your space is genuinely tight, the framed screen is worth considering.
Choose the inflatable when your event is outdoors with good clearance, when there is potential for light wind, and when you want the maximum visual presence. It handles Perth sea breezes better than the framed version and looks more spectacular from a distance.
The framed screen is a tensioned projection surface stretched across a rigid aluminium frame. It sits lower to the ground and has a much smaller overall profile than the inflatable. That is its main advantage — it fits places the inflatable simply cannot go.
School halls in Fremantle, function rooms in the Perth CBD, garages converted for a birthday party, covered pergolas in Applecross — these are all framed screen territory. The rigid frame also makes it more practical in venues with low ceilings or overhead obstructions that would prevent the inflatable from fully deploying.
The framed screen is not designed for gusty outdoor conditions. If you are setting up on an exposed oval or park and Perth’s afternoon wind comes in, the framed screen is not the right tool. For anything that might have wind, go inflatable.
Choose the framed screen when your event is indoors, under cover, or in a space with overhead restrictions. Also choose it when you are in a residential area with noise concerns and want to avoid even the brief startup noise of the inflatable fan. The setup is faster and the teardown is quieter.
