What to bring yourself

The cinema equipment is covered. These are the things that complete the experience on your end.

🪑
Extra seating — Bean bags handle the front rows. Camping chairs, garden chairs, and blankets on the lawn work well for adults behind. You do not need to outfit every guest with a bean bag — a mix of seating types feels natural and comfortable.
🧥
Light layers and throw rugs — Perth autumn evenings are warm but it cools down after 9pm. Having a few throw rugs available for guests who feel the chill keeps everyone comfortable to the end of the film.
🎬
Your film source — USB, Blu-ray, DVD, or a streaming device (Netflix, Disney Plus, Stan). We connect to any of these. If using a streaming device, bring it charged and logged in. See our note on film licensing if your event is open to the public.
🍿
Snacks and drinks — Individual popcorn bags are the classic choice. A small snack station near the seating area with chips, drinks, and lollies set out before the movie starts means no interruptions once it begins.

Atmosphere extras that make a difference

None of these are essential, but they are the details that elevate a good night into a great one.

Fairy lights — String them through trees, along a fence, or overhead. More than any other single addition, fairy lights transform how a backyard looks after dark. Warm white gives the best effect.
🪔
Lanterns along the path — Solar lanterns or small candles placed along the path from the house to the screen area look striking and help guests find their way in the dark without floodlights washing out the picture.
🎵
Pre-show playlist — We can run music through the cinema sound system while guests arrive and it gets dark. Prepare a playlist on your phone or USB and hand it to us when we set up. It sets the tone before a single frame of the film plays.
🎟️
Printed tickets — A simple printed or digital “admit one” ticket with the film title and event name. Guests keep them. Takes 10 minutes on Canva and adds a genuine cinema feel to the arrival experience.

Frequently asked questions

The only things you need to provide are your film source (USB, streaming device, Blu-ray, or laptop HDMI) and access to a power point, or you can add a generator to the booking. Everything else is included and managed by Perth Pop-Up Movies.
A common approach is to hire bean bags for roughly half the expected guest count, with the rest using their own chairs or blankets. For a kids birthday party of 20 children, 10 to 15 bean bags near the screen works well. For adult events, 1 bean bag per person is ideal if your budget allows. Bean bags are $11 each with a $6/km delivery charge from Kwinana.
Yes. Bring your own streaming device (phone, tablet, laptop, or streaming stick) logged in to your account and we connect it to the projector via HDMI. Data usage runs from your own account and mobile data. Make sure your device is charged and the app is open and ready before we set up.
The base speaker setup handles most backyard events up to around 60 to 80 guests well. For larger groups, events near a busy road, or community oval events, the speaker upgrade (from $100) makes a noticeable difference. The 5m and 8m community screen packages include a dual subwoofer sound system designed for open outdoor spaces.
