Why it works

Why a club event fundraiser works so well.

The hard part of any fundraiser is getting people through the door. A movie night under the stars sells itself.

🎬
The wow factor does the selling

An 8m cinema screen on your oval is the kind of thing members photograph and share. Word spreads fast — you’ll sell tickets before the posters go up.

🍺
Bar and canteen stays open

A 3-hour movie means 3 hours of bar sales. Your existing setup keeps running — we bring the cinema, you keep all the food and drink revenue.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦
Brings in the whole family

Movie nights attract members who skip the usual events. Families, kids, long-standing members who haven’t been in years — it’s a reunion with a screen.

💰
Three revenue streams in one night

Ticket sales, bar/canteen takings and a raffle. A well-run night with 300 people can clear $2,000+ in a single evening.

🎙️
Built-in intermission moment

Intermission is perfect for a 5-minute sponsor shoutout, club announcements, award presentations or a live raffle draw. High energy, captive crowd.

📅
Works any time of year

End of season, mid-year fundraiser, club anniversary, presentation night warm-up — any date works. We also set up indoors for winter events.

Revenue ideas

Stack your revenue streams.

The ticket price is just the start. Here’s how clubs consistently turn a movie night into a $2,000+ evening.

🎟️
Two-tier tickets

Standard general admission plus a VIP bean bag tier. Families happily pay $5–$8 extra for a reserved spot up front. Cap VIP to create urgency.

Extra earn: $150–400
🍺
Keep the bar open

Your bar or canteen stays fully operational. 3 hours of captive audience with nowhere to be — bar revenue on a movie night is consistently higher than a normal club night.

Extra earn: $400–800
🎰
Live raffle at intermission

Draw the raffle on the microphone at intermission. The whole crowd is watching and the energy is high — raffle ticket sales before the draw are consistently strong.

Extra earn: $200–500
🎙️
Intermission sponsorship

Sell a local business a 2-minute microphone mention at intermission. Easy ask for a local tradie, pub or real estate agent who wants to reach your members.

Extra earn: $100–300
🏆
Awards or presentation segment

Fold in your end-of-season awards or club announcements. Turns the movie night into a full event — justifies a higher ticket price and boosts attendance.

Increases attendance 20–40%
📸
Highlight reel or slideshow

Play a club highlights video or season slideshow before the main feature. Members love it, sponsors get logo exposure — a 5 minute opener that costs nothing to produce.

Getting the word out

How to fill every seat.

The more people who show up, the more you raise. Here’s what consistently works for Perth clubs.

1
Post in your club Facebook group three times

Once when tickets open, once two weeks out with urgency, once 2 days before as a final nudge. Stagger the posts — each one reaches people who missed the last.

2
Send the member email early

Use the template below — give members 4–5 weeks notice so families can plan. A movie night is a family night, so give parents time to organise babysitters or bring the kids.

3
Ask coaches and team captains to mention it

A quick mention at training or a message in the team group chat reaches people who aren’t on Facebook. This is consistently the highest-converting channel.

4
Cap VIP bean bag numbers

Even if you have capacity for more, promote a limited number of VIP spots. “Only 20 VIP bean bag seats left!” drives early sales and creates urgency for standard tickets too.

5
Run a competition or giveaway

Give away two VIP tickets to someone who shares your event post. Costs you $40 in ticket value and can reach hundreds of non-members in a single day.

🎬 Film licence

Find your film licence.

Screening a feature film to a public audience requires a licence (~$400 via Roadshow). Presentation nights, highlight reels and slideshows do not require one.

Searches Google for your film + Roadshow licensing — click the top result to apply.

Questions

Frequently asked questions.

Only if you’re screening a feature film to a public audience. Apply through Roadshow’s portal — licences cost around $400 and take a few days to process. If you’re running a presentation night, highlights reel or club slideshow, no licence is required.
The 5m screen suits 50–300 comfortable viewers and is great for smaller clubs or first-time events. The 8m screen is ideal for larger clubs with 300–1,200+ expected attendance. Tell us your expected numbers and we’ll recommend the right fit.
Yes — our framed screen works perfectly inside a club hall, gymnasium or function room, making your event completely weather-proof. Just let us know your venue when you enquire.
Absolutely. You can screen club-produced content — season highlights, sponsor recognition slides, award presentations — without a film licence. Just supply the content on a USB or laptop and we’ll handle the rest.
Your bar and canteen operate exactly as normal — we bring the cinema, you keep all food and beverage revenue. A 3-hour movie is 3 hours of captive audience and bar sales on a movie night are consistently strong.
6–8 weeks out is ideal, especially for popular autumn and spring dates. A 50% deposit locks in your date. The earlier you book, the more time you have to sell tickets and build anticipation.
